Eek! My book is out in a week

This is John, the magician from the book. As well as being hot, he’s very, very inventive. And kind to hedgehogs. Luckily.

Eek is such a great word, isn’t it? Eek. Eek. Eek! It practically squeaks off the page in jocular alarm.

Yep, it’s an eek kind of day. That’s because Salt Magic Skin Magic – my upcoming fantasy historical m/m romance – will be released in one week. It’s up for pre-order now and the reviews (eek!) from advance reader copies have started to come in.

So far, the reviews on Goodreads have been great. The few I’ve dared to read, that is. Some writers say they never read their reviews and I’ve always thought ‘How sensible. How wise. That’s what I’ll do.’

But OH MY GOD how do they NOT read them?

And (equally) OH MY GOD how do they find the courage to READ the things? (Eek!)

Despite my eeks and my do-I-don’t-I dance around reviews – I’m feeling good.

The book is ready, I’ve navigated the admin associated with publishing, and approached lots of reviewers/promo sites. I’m sure there are more things I could have done, but I’m at peace with my efforts. It’s an eeky peace, but it’s real.

Salt Magic Skin Magic is out on August 9. I wonder how I’ll be feeling on August 8?

What do you think? Should I read the reviews? Should I not? Probably not, eh? I’m thinking not. Mind you…

  1. For what it’s worth, I think (and I rarely think, lol) that your book is awesome!! I enjoy both your contemporary and historical fantasy stories. Please publish more books soon(er), Lee. *nudge* *nudge* 😀

  2. I think you need to engage a reviewer to review your reviews for you. They should pass you the good ones and the constructive ones, and burn the rest. They should also ply you with coffee/ tea/wine and carefully monitor your responses. ‘Eeek’ is probably good, along with ‘oh!’ and ‘ah’. ‘Argh’ means time out and fresh air are required …

  3. Hi Liz.

The reviews are amazing, unanimously so as far as I’ve seen. No need for eeks. I’m patting myself on the back for having recognised immediately how good your book was.

Lunch next week? I left my phone at home today (grrrr) so if you want to reply to me, it’ll have to be via email.

    CONGRATULATIONS AND CELEBRATIONS, Susan
